Job Description
Accounting Generalist
We are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Generalist to join our growing, 100-year-old company. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a small company environment where you’ll have the chance to wear many hats and make a direct impact. If you have experience with accounts payable, excise tax filing, general ledger accounting, and reconciliation, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Process payments, invoices, journal vouchers, employee reimbursements, and statements
- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring accurate transaction records
- Perform account reconciliations, including bank accounts, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns, including excise tax filings
- Assist with tax and inventory audits and prepare necessary documents and reports
- Coordinate with state tax departments and assist with month-end closing duties
- Maintain accounting filing systems and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting practices
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned
- 2+ years of accounting experience, including excise tax experience with taxable goods (tobacco, alcohol, etc.)
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Self-starter who is comfortable taking on various tasks in a small company setting
- Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field
- Experience with AS400 or other accounting information systems
