Setting/Hours: 100% In-Office | First Shift 8-5

Join trak group in partnering with a growing client seeking a Project Engineer to manage capital and facility improvement projects within an operating manufacturing environment. This role will oversee projects from initial concept and scope development through construction, commissioning, startup, and final closeout.

The Project Engineer will coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, contractors, vendors, Operations, and Maintenance while managing project schedules, budgets, safety requirements, and technical documentation. This is a hands-on opportunity for an engineer with experience supporting capital projects in industrial or process manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities

  • Manage capital and facility improvement projects from concept through implementation and closeout.

  • Develop project scopes, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and capital expenditure justifications.

  • Coordinate mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, controls, civil, and structural engineering activities.

  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to identify equipment, reliability, process, and infrastructure improvements.

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, purchase requisitions, contractor costs, and expenditures.

  • Develop bid packages, evaluate vendor proposals, and support contractor selection.

  • Coordinate engineering firms, contractors, suppliers, and external resources.

  • Review P&IDs, engineering drawings, equipment specifications, layouts, and vendor documentation.

  • Ensure projects meet engineering, environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements.

  • Participate in MOC, PHA, and PSSR activities.

  • Support OSHA PSM and EPA RMP compliance requirements.

  • Coordinate construction while minimizing disruption to ongoing plant operations.

  • Monitor schedules, budgets, risks, milestones, and contractor performance.

  • Oversee equipment installation, testing, commissioning, startup, and turnover.

  • Maintain project documentation, engineering records, and drawing updates.

  • Provide troubleshooting support throughout project execution and startup.
Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field.

  • 3–7 years of engineering and/or capital project management experience.

  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process environment.

  • Experience managing capital projects within an operating manufacturing facility.

  • Strong knowledge of project scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.

  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, engineering firms, and multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Knowledge of industrial equipment such as pumps, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, and piping systems.

  • Exposure to electrical, controls, instrumentation, and automation systems.

  • Experience supporting equipment installation, construction, commissioning, and startup.

  • Strong project management, technical problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred

  • Chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or food processing experience.

  • Experience working in a PSM-regulated facility.

  • Knowledge of MOC, PHA, and PSSR processes.

  • Familiarity with OSHA PSM and environmental compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ASME, API, and NEC standards.

  • PE license or progress toward licensure.

  • PMP certification or formal project management training.

  • AutoCAD or similar design software experience.

  • SAP or other ERP system experience.
